Happiness...
Happiness. We’ve been conditioned to think it’s supposed to be this big, monumental thing. We’ve been taught to believe that happiness should come from people and things, forgetting that it really truly can only come from ourselves.
We’re rushing to get to a place where we think happiness is waiting for us; in a partner, in a job, in a house.
“I’ll be happy once I’m in a relationship”
“I’ll be happy once I get the job of my dreams”
“I’ll be happy once I’m making enough money.”
When we put pressure on the big events in our life to provide us with happiness, we can often be let down. But, when we let happiness come to us in the little moments, that is where we find gratitude.
Happiness can come from those big moments, but it doesn’t have to survive off of them. We forget to look for happiness in the small moments, usually the things that make our lives so beautiful.
The taste of your morning coffee. The sherbet colors of the sunset. The way the sun feels on your skin. The smell of fresh flowers. The way someone you really care about looks at you. A hug from your Dad. A kiss from your Mom. Laughter with your best friends. That is where happiness comes from.
If you take a second to look up, you’ll see that it’s all around you. Happiness is not about the destination, but the journey.
